Are You Tuned into Radio Frequency Identification?
This article examines the organizational fit of radio frequency identification (RFID) and its technology’s basic mechanics. Its prohibitive costs often account for the decision to not implement RFID. Yet some factors influencing adoption may shed new light on why RFID is important.
: key components of any RFID system. Understanding the properties, capabilities, and limitations of each tag type will assist in the solution design. The tags currently in use within the industry are listed in Table 1, which identifies the five different types of tags and lists their advantages, disadvantages, and common applications. Tag Type Advantages Disadvantages Application Active Greater read range, greater memory capacity, and continuous signal Required battery maintenance, larger battery size, and
RFID ... For Customers?

: RFID ... For Customers? RFID ... For Customers? Ann Grackin - March 18, 2005 Read Comments Introduction Recently I spoke at the National Retail Federation in the center of retail: New York City! The big buzz this year, no surprise, was about RFID. Since much of the current activity has been focused on logistics—a clear winner as a starting point—we are missing the dialogue on the consumer side of the retail equation—merchandising, and most important, the customer experience. I was pleased to be
The Supply Chain of Sitcoms—Enhanced with Radio Frequency Identification
Imagine what sitcoms like Cheers, Laverne and Shirley, and Green Acres would look like if they were radio frequency identification (RFID) enhanced. Then picture the impact that RFID technology can have on the customer experience in your own enterprise.
: today if they were RFID enhanced . So, sit back, close your eyes, and imagine along with me well, you can t close your eyes and read this at the same time, so just sit back and imagine Cheers! The Cheers bar is now a chain of Cheers bars spread all over the country. Everybody knows your name before you walk in (because there are sensors in the parking lots that read your handy Cheers key fob that you never leave home without ) and they also know what your favorite drink is and which is your favorite

Active Execution Management--Delivering on the RFID Promise
Active Execution Management captures radio frequency identification (RFID) and electronic product code (EPC) data and integrates it into the supply chain business process. AXM associates individual EPC events (the observation of an EPC tag at an RFID reader) with the supply chain transaction that is currently being executed and then determines if that supply chain transaction is executing as planned. AXM is able to make this determination by comparing key performance indicators of the supply chain transaction with the characteristics of the EPC event. The paper describes multiple business cases, such as promotions management, deductions management, complex international shipments, and spoilage management, and shows how RFID data can be leveraged to improve supply chain performance.

The Data Explosion
RFID and wireless usage will drive up data transactions by ten fold over the next few years. It is likely that a significant readdressing of the infrastructure will be required--in the enterprise and the global bandwidth.
: and of course RFID. RFID transactions will grow in number and dimension. Number of transactions Depth of detail—items on up Type of transactions Size of transactions It s hard to separate these out; they kind of go together. But we ll explore a few thoughts around this data explosion. Number of Transactions Global trade is increasing the number of shipments by 7 to 8 percent each year. Embedded within this process is also the need to trace, track, and secure these shipments. Hybrid devices are already
SSA Global Forms a Strategic Unit with an Extended-ERP SavvyPart Two: Market Impact
Through its recently formed Strategic Solutions team, SSA Global might be showing that it is not just an ERP collector that is living off milking its install base, but rather an extended enterprise applications provider that can appeal to both its current and new users.
: Global too recognizes that RFID is one of the emerging technologies that will drive increased supply chain visibility, control, and compliance. Additionally, the RFID mandate to suppliers from Albertsons , Target , Wal-Mart, and the US Department of Defense proves that RFID will have a significant impact on future supply chain operations (see RFID—A New Technology Set to Explode? ). To that end, in response to customer demands, SSA Global pledges to soon, albeit not more precisely specified, deliver

How to Transform Your Operations Today with the Technology of the Future
Radio frequency identification (RFID) is the most rapidly growing segment in today's automatic identification industry. The creation of the Auto-ID Electronic Product Code (EPC) Standard coupled with affordable RFID tag costs, and Wal-Mart's mandated adoption of the standard for all its suppliers, will drive rapid deployment. Learn how RFID will evolve as the cost and capability of deploying the system becomes more operationally feasible and economical, and of the benefits it will bring.
